Identifying route corridors

We did a study to identify areas of land between Richborough and Canterbury through which a new high-voltage connection could be built.  We looked at:

  • Residential areas
  • Areas of woodland
  • Water bodies and marshes
  • Environmental designations
  • Local planning policy and designations
  • Existing overhead lines

Taking these issues into account, we identified two potential route corridors for the Richborough Connection - the North Corridor and the South Corridor. The North Corridor option also included two ways for the western end of the North Corridor to reach the Canterbury North substation. These were referred to as ‘sub-options’.

Please see below a map of the two route corridors we considered (click to enlarge). A copy of the maps can also be found on the maps page.
